Why Should We Have Clubs?

Clubs play a big part in high school. They are used as a way to find people that have similar interests, opinions and ideas, and there are so many varieties of clubs here at Hayward High! This year, a whole new wave of clubs has swept through the school. You can still find and join any of these clubs, new and old!

Comic Book Club

The Comic Book Club has a great sense of community; they get together to read comic books and other visual novels or sometimes they just have conversations. The teacher advisor is Mr Jones, the president is Caesar Reyes and the Vice president is Jorge Salgado. They meet up every Thursday after school In A-8.

Garden Club

At the Garden Club, we beautify our school by planting, de-weeding, and growing a variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers.  Members can also earn community service hours. Our club advisor is Mr. Prine and the club president is Isla Salgado. The Garden Club meets on Wednesdays (after school) and Thursdays (at lunch in C-5). If you enjoy nature and need community service hours, come join us to make our school blossom!

Medical Club

This club is a Biomed-led organization with Mr. Nixon as their Advisor and Monse Vargas as their Club President. Since Biomed is a pathway that inspires students to explore careers in the medical field, their club aims to do the exact same by expanding to all students that attend Hayward High, not just Biomed students. At club day, they had a reaction-time game that showed how different factors in the body can affect response speed. They also had many fun games like their popular syringe activity using Gatorade. Through activities like these, the Medical Club provides an exciting and welcoming space for anyone curious about medicine and exploring future careers in healthcare. The medical club meets every Wednesday during lunch in STEM 104, make sure to pass by!

Crotchet/ Knitting Clubs

The Crochet and Knitting Clubs let students get creative and make cool handmade items. The Crochet Club president is Liliana Herrera, and the teacher advisor is Mr. Prine. They meet every Wednesday in C5, and everyone is welcome, no experience needed!

Makerspace Club

Makerspace club, a club opportunity to express creativity and to socialize, as well as just work with electronics like crickets and laser cutters. Mr. Lockey is the teacher advisor of the club, along with Genesis (president) and Ariana Gutierrez. This club will meet up on Thursdays after school. 

MSA Club

The MSA Club builds community, promotes respect for the Muslim religion, and provides a space to discuss global issues. Meetings are Wednesdays in A6 with advisor Mrs. Abby and vice president Mariam Jilani.

Youth In Action

Youth In Action is a new club used for students’ voices to be heard, and to be educated on what’s going on in the real world. The Teacher advisor is Mr Peterson, the president for this club is Crystal, and the vice president is Danny Garrett. Since this is a newly made club they are either meeting on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, it’s to be determined. 

Robotics Club

 Robotics club is a chance to do a lot of extracurriculars, such as participating in the Berkeley Robotics Competition, and is a great way for students to just get more involved in something new and exciting. Meetings are every Wednesday in room E1, the teacher advisor is Mrs. Byrd alongside Thomas Salinas. 

Bayanihan Club

Bayanihan Club is a new club, also known as the Filipino Club and they contribute to: unity, culture, and community spirit. The teacher advisor is Mr. DeJesus, and the president for the club is Phen. They meet up on Thursdays & Fridays (depending on their meetings) in A-12. 

Badminton Club

Badminton here at Hayward High is originally a sport, but recently it also became a club. Mariam, the president of this newly created club, says: “You guys should join Badminton, it’s really underrated; we wanted to connect outside of school and create a fun and exciting club.” The teacher advisor is Mr. Yang, and the vice president is Jesus. They meet Thursdays in E-3

College Prep Club: 

Another club we have joining us this year is the College Prep Club with Mr. Buros as the Advisor and Delsener, one of our current seniors, as the Club President. This club is dedicated to preparing students for college, having seniors help each other with their applications and various tests while supporting each other through the entirety of our seniors’ college journeys. At club day, they gave out Sour Patch Kids and Swedish fish to those who completed the sign up form for the club. If you’re a senior who is in need of any sort of college assistance, or a student who is interested in becoming more educated about college, make sure to stop by Mr. Buros room in A-24 every Friday at lunch!

Unhindered Youth Club

Unhindered Youth Club is a new club, and they believe that everyone deserves to know about Jesus christ and there’s a lot of people who have an interest, and that is why they made this club. The teacher advisor is Mrs. Marshall and the president is Arlene Monge. There isn’t an exact date for the meetings, but it’s a work in progress.

Hayward High Puente

Puente is about building community and helping students get community service experience. They also do LTE fundraisers, after-school programs, and sports events. The program supports underrepresented students to reach a four-year degree and give back to their community. Advisors are Mr. Gavino, Mr. Ochoa, and Mr. Hernandez. Meetings are in C-10, at least once a week.

ASA Club

Join the Asian Student Association to celebrate all things Asian! The club is full of energy, culture, and friendship. It’s a place to connect, learn, and have fun while embracing diversity. They meet every Tuesday at A-12!

GirlVentures

GirlVentures partners with an Oakland nonprofit to offer outdoor programs that build leadership, confidence, and social awareness in girls and gender expansive youth. All gear, food, and instruction are provided for free to help make embracing the outdoors more accessible. We meet Mondays at lunch in T-13, and all five officers work as a team to lead the club together.

GSA

The GSA Club provides a safe place for anyone interested in joining. It’s a safe space to be yourself and express your true colors. They’ll also provide community resources and at the end of the year they do field trips. The teacher advisor is Miss Goodall, the president for this club is Delson, and the vice president is Gia Paus they meet Wednesdays during lunch in A-15.
