Bathrooms at HHS: They’re Always Closed.

A recurring issue that I’ve heard from people throughout the year is that at the most inconvenient times, the bathrooms are closed. Sometimes, A-hall will be closed, sometimes E-hall will be closed, sometimes Steam will be closed, and sometimes even most of them are closed at the same time. This irritates many students because they sometimes get reprimanded for being gone too long when they have to walk across campus to use the restroom. Bathrooms will be shut down for numerous reasons, including uncleanliness and vandalism.

Though the school can definitely combat these two issues in the same fashion, by using janitors. Sure, it’s probably out of the question thanks to the poor budget the district has, but students shouldn’t be reprimanded for time lost in class from the bathroom. Nor should that right to the restroom be taken because of lost time. Unfortunately, some students will use this excuse to skip class or walk around campus during a “bathroom break”, hence why teachers will get less understanding about the downed bathrooms and some students can even lose time to use the restroom when someone’s out for half the class period. What the school can do is report to all the teachers what bathrooms are closed or opened so students can be aware and spend less time searching for an opened bathroom and the excuse for students who skip can be less likely.
