Perspective: The First HHS Football Game

The first football game was a blast. A lot of things happened during the game, like the student section being full, big lines being created to get in, and more. I went to the game with a friend of mine and spoke about whether the team was going to win or lose. For me, I thought the team was going to lose, as the last time I attended a game was during sophomore year, and my friend shared that they thought they were going to win.

Obviously, both JV and Varsity teams won their own games, making the team start off with a good record. Most of the time, I was just taking notes about the game, observing what happened and which team had the ball. On the other half, I was teaching my friend what football is, the rules, and the positions, as it was their first time attending a high school football game. During the game, Arroyo had gotten the ball first, and with the HHS team managing to play defense, they forced a turnover, allowing HHS to be the first to score a touchdown. Afterwards, it was Arroyo’s ball, and they managed to score a field goal, gaining them 3 points and forcing HHS to a turnover that resulted in their first touchdown. Honestly, at this point, it was 7-10: Hayward 7 and Arroyo 10. I really thought it was game over for Hayward, as Arroyo was ahead, even though the game had barely started. But HHS managed to run a complete scoring field on Arroyo, making the score go from 7-10 to 48-10, ending the night with a Mercy Rule (Varsity). During the game, two players kept going at it with each other after the downs were over, going back and forth, both wearing the number 6, which was funny to my friend and me. Ending the night with a win for both JV and Varsity, the first game for HHS went well, as I wasn’t really expecting the team to blow out Arroyo. I thought it would either be a loss or a close game, but it was neither of those.
