Senior Sunrise Brings a Class Together

Wrapped in warm blankets and eating donuts, the Class of 2027 gathered on the football field on the morning of Friday, August 28th, for one of their first official events as soon-to-be graduates: Senior Sunrise. Over the summer, Senior Sunrise was all anyone could talk about, worrying about sleep schedules and snacks. But out on the field in the pitch-black morning of 6am at the start of fall, no one was worrying about anything yet.

“Senior Sunrise felt nostalgic and rewarding,” said one of the seniors, recalling eating a pre-ordered donut and wearing a colorful lei as a surprising flock of geese flew overhead in the middle of the event, catching everyone’s attention. “It’s kind of symbolic, like we’re all moving on to the next thing together.”

Yearbook students wandered the field with their cameras as their peers posed with props, and ASB worked hard to make sure that their photo booth printer was working. “I felt very excited knowing that I was going into my final school year with my best friends,” mentioned another student after the event. While for a lot of the event, many students were scattered with their own friends, everyone still came together for a class photo—highlighting their connection with one another as they embarked on senior year.

Ready for the school year, students excitedly started mentioning future events like the first spirit week of the school year, downtown rally, and homecoming all coming up in October. As the event went on and people started packing up their pool floats and blankets in order to start heading up to either breakfast or their zero period classes, the sun finally cleared the horizon. With the first tradition officially checked off their list, the Class of 2027 walked off the field ready to take on the rest of their historic final year.
